analysis of opening credits and Dramas

Here I analysed 2 opening credits to films.
I analysed 2 opening credits because in my project, i am making a opening credit to a thriller
Spiderman 2

This is a very good opening credit to a film and I will be explaining why. The first thing I will be taking about is that it is set out in a comic book way. All the superhero films start like this as it reflects where the story originally comes from.  There is music playing all the way through it, this is very catchy and it was in the first film and all of us remember this from the first one. Every time we here that music we all think of Spiderman.

The very clever thing about this film is the pictures that are shown throughout the opening credits. Some of these show the characters in the film, for us to remember them from the last one. All the other ones are highlights from the first film this is done for two reasons. The first is that it shows us that it is a sequel and the second reason is for us to remember where the last film left us.  The opening credits are edited very well. When they change picture is has a spider web effect, this is good as the film is about Spiderman.

They use a very simple font in the opening credits. This is so we can all read what they put up during the credits. The speed in which the writing and pictures is at the right one. As we have time to look at both things.

This film uses array of shots from long to close up. It uses close up when each main character is show and long shot when is trying fit the whole picture in so we can view everything which is going on. At two points it uses over shoulders shots where you can see the emotion on both characters which is very clever.

Pink Panther

This opening credit is a lot different to Spiderman. The first thing I am talking about is the music in the film. Again it very catchy and everyone knows it is associated with the pink panther.  A lot of the colour is pink and blue. The pink is associated with the pink panther and the blue is associated with police. This is because the pink panther and the police are key in this film. The font is also in pink and blue. The font is really simple, so all of us viewers can read it easier and understand the words.

There are a number of types of shots used in these opening credits. The main one used in the medium shot where you can see all of the pink panther and policeman, but throughout the shots change. They do close ups on the pink panther face and then a very long shot, this is so you can see everything that is going on. The editing and making of the opening credit had the rule of third in mind and no of the shots look weird and out of place which was good.

Holby City

I anaylsed holby city becuase of the verisimilitude involved in the making of it, these was helpful in the way of which i would like my opening credit to seem life like.

Holby city is a hospital drama on BBC. In the extract which I watched the verisimilitude was very good.  The creators of this hospital drama did really well on making everything throughout the programme look amazingly real and life like. This hospital drama brings a lot of viewing pleasures to the viewers who watch it. These pleasures include a lot of things including different narratives running throughout and the type of characters in the programme.

Throughout the extract of the drama that I watched there where loads of different narratives running through the programme that keeps you interested in the programme.  The narratives of the bit that I watched of Holby city included a story about a patient and her husband, the consultant who had cancer and many more. This brings pleasure to the viewers because all of the different narratives kept you on the edge of my seat throughout the showing of the programme.  This one of the most important thing for all the dramas to have because if kept you on your toes trying to keep up with all of the little story are going on which could affect the main storyline going on.

Another pleasure of Holby city is the variety of characters in the programme. Holby city had loads of characters; these included the nurses, doctors, patients and many more. These characters bring pleasure to the viewers because they bring likability to them and you either hate them or love them. The characters also bring you into the programme by bringing conflict to the programme if you disagree with something you do, you think what you would if you were in there shoes, so this most certainly brings you more involved in the programme.

Another thing that brings pleasure to the viewers is an emotional reaction. This can link in with a variety of characters. This is because when something happens to your favourite character you will start to feel from him/her and it will affect your self. An emotional reaction brings pleasure to the viewer because if you don’t get emotional about something that happens in the programme either positive or negative, you are not liking as much as would do if you get emotional about and you would tend to go off the programme, then you will start watching something out and maybe get emotional about that and enjoy it more.

Holby city does very well in making it real (verisimilitude). There are number of things that make Holby city look real. The first thing that caught my eye was the uniforms that they were wearing, these were up to date with the ones that you see in hospitals all over the world. Correct equipment, they had all the up to date equipment used in the drama which would be used to day. Different narratives are like real life. In a hospital you are going to have little things going on with each other, these are similar to storylines in a drama.
